Does the fuel pump and sending unit have different electrical connectors even though they are both par of the same assembly?

Fuel gauge is beating me down Seems we all have similar problems but not identical which makes it confusing. Since I bought my 3rd gen a few months back it has been amazing but even during the test drive the gauge reads empty and the fuel level light flashes. I didn't think this was a big deal...
