    How many miles on yours?!?!?

I've just crossed 120K. Replacment items to date: ignition cylinder. Power antenna should be replaced. Rocker cover seal leaks a little oil. Otherwise I guess I am pretty lucky.

BIG problems since I bought it

The driveshaft can clunk when braking to a stop or when brakes are released, if driveshaft spline has not been greased in the last several oil changes. Many use Valvoline's synthetic moly for all the fittings.

NOW you did it! A zillion 4R owners are going to be looking to find out how to adjust valve lash.

    Newbie, Looking for truck

I am dodging your question a bit, but I do not like the odds of finding a hidden problem during a driving test or one-hour mechanic's check. I would enhance the odds of a favorable outcome by first picking a 4R that has complete maintenance records for repairs and sheduled maintenence. A...

    Battery completely flat

As it is a new car for you, perhaps it might be caused by a dome light (the one in back) left on. Also, if the car was from the south and you are in the north, the battery might have been strong enough for temperatures in the 60's, but not good enough for 20's. Sometimes, it's just time to...

    I'm surprised at leasing rate's

"Premature termination" is a small-print item, but it sure can become a big problem if, for some totally unexpected reason, you have to get out of the lease early. Some termination clauses require all payments in full, but can be waived if your next car is with the same dealer. So get a copy of...

    Synthetic Oil and Engine longevity

I remember that article .. http://www.xs11.com/stories/croil96.htm My two gripes at the time with the test design were as follows: 1) NYC taxi engines do not get the number of cold starts per 1000 miles that would be representative of more "normal" use. Cabbies do not turn off their...

    What's Adrd?

In checking out Amsoil's recommended lubricants for 1998 4Runner, front differentials are listed w/ Adrd and w/o Adrd. Owner's Manual also indicates there are two types. What's the difference, and how can I tell which one I've got? Differential, Front W/ Adrd.....GL-5 75W-90 Severe...

just moved ot the snow. little help?

Regarding corrosion: (1) Park 4R outside (lower temperature slows chemical reaction, and humidity is lower), (2) apply penetrating/corrosion resisting oil to inner locations/seams that collect water, and (3) check periodically for water penetration to cabin and repair. Do that and all your...
