I'm having the same problem. I have the replacement rod that broke, but I can't seem to get it back into sequence with the:
key-> ignition column-> ignition housing-> ignition switch
Has anyone replaced this part before?

I'm not sure what to call it exactly. This "rod" comes from the column that holds both the ignition switch and ignition lock cylinder. There is an internal rod in that column that snapped on my 4runner.
