the 22re is arguably the most over engineered engine toyota made that is still cheap and obtainable. As far as I know, I'm still cruisin on my 2nd headgasket and the first one lasted like 200,000 miles or some huge number. That's the engine to get. I don't know anything about the Auto...

In what world?? V6's are pretty underpowered too. Not to mention headgasket after headgasket. I'd say back out of the sale and look for a regeared 4cyl. the 22re may be a bit slow.. but I haven't met anyone who has ever had a choice between 22re and 3vze and picked the latter.
