i have had the problem so many times and it is in fact what was mentioned above, dirt gets into the return spring in that latch. just take a flat blade screwdriver and scrap all of the dirt out of the latch area near spring and clean out as best as you can and spray some lube in there and work...
this has happened to me before also. you can try to flip the key over this has worked for me it would be a good idea to put some lube in there as stated above. make sure that your steering wheel isnt locked because that will lock the ignition. if none of that works put the key in and LIGHTY tap...
if your just looking to go simple and with toyec just go with the 3" inch front spacers and rear coils. get the kit with the diff drop. the whole kit is around$330. but before you go out and buy a lift its helpful to know what you plan to do with the truck after its lifted. a spacer kit is cheap...

i did the same mud flap mod looks so much better like that.
i have the same trouble tried to have them balanced and rotated. still have a shake in the wheel. also had them on my 95 4runner and had small shake just learned to live with it.
if your talking about the sway bar end links it isnt really a huge deal but i would get them replaced at some point. do you happen to have a picture so were talkin bout the same thing.
mine has a brand new t-stat and rad. it runs just about dead center on the gauge. ive never had a problem even when im out wheelin. id venture to say that its fine.
if you cant get what you want from uhaul check out penske rental they have bigger trailers and you should be able to get the runner on a full car trailer if you want to.
