What's this? Picture guessing game (heat shield?)

Was it covering the catalytic converter? I think it's a cat shield to prevent theft. Especially with the etched numbers and such. That's my guess.

    Camping overnight with tailgate open

I've seen a couple guys use lift support clamps Maybe that would be a good, cheap, quick solution for ya. Just need one, clamp it on the strut, and no worries of the latch closing on you.

    Question for A/C Experts

I just recently had some trouble with an AC line getting rubbed by my hybrid winch bumper, so I rented the same manifold gage set and vacuum pump from Autozone. I would be fairly confident that your system is fine and is holding pressure well. Considering all the fittings and hose connections...

    California v8 owners

I will likely keep my current manifolds and fix em like you did. Or, I might find a scrapyard to buy the 2 cats from me to make some money back toward the new manifolds.

    California v8 owners

Thanks for bringing this topic into a central thread! I've spent the past few months trying to find the best options, too. My '04 manifolds are getting really bad... I dug deep in previous forum threads and read most of the data/posts but there really isn't much in the way of CA success...

    Why a 4th gen?

I chose 4th gen because I got an ok deal back in 2018 on a V8 4wd SE. Clean, AZ truck with no rust and only one owner. Poor guy traded it in for a Mazda... I love the V8 and the size of the truck, but something is left to be desired. I really wish it was MANUAL. So at the moment, I'm heavily...

Sounds from vents when fan or AC running

I've had something similar in the past, but hard to tell for sure based on your description. First thing I would make sure would be to ensure all the vents are fully open on the dash. I've had a sneaky passenger close one before and it made a weird whistling the next time I used AC. Thought I...

    285/70r17 C load PSI?

I'm running 285/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks (Load C) on 7.5 in wide rims (2012 Trail Edition 4Runner/FJ wheels) and running about 35 psi all around. Fair bit of weight on-board all the time with drawers, rtt, winch, V8, etc.

    IronMan 2" Suspension lift kit

Good question: so with the Ironman UCAs, they come with 4 degrees extra caster built in. So i actually had no rubbing issues at all with factory alignment specs. Then i added wheel spacers (see my reply about this above). With the wheels out an extra 1.25 inches, i started rubbing badly. Using...

    IronMan 2" Suspension lift kit

Thanks! Yeah i have 1.25 spidertrax. The trail wheels i have from a 2012 4Runner are +15mm offset (meaning about .5 inch inboard). With the spacers, i actually started rubbing more. I wouldnt recommend the spacers unless you’re ready to start trimming things and maybe a BMC.

    IronMan 2" Suspension lift kit

I would give it a go. I think that kit might level your truck as it’s sold. If not, adding a spacer later isn’t super difficult. And yes, i fit the 33s just fine without trimming. I have 285/70/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws

    IronMan 2" Suspension lift kit

Hey man, There's a thread called "The Ironman Suspension Thread" and it has 2 pages of info on the Ironman stuff for 4th gens. I have the 2.5 in front, 2 in rear suspension lift from them and their UCAs. I'm very pleased with the on and offroad manners. See my post about it here As far as...

Likelihood of 4th Gen V8 Cats being stolen

I've been thinking about this as well considering we have 3 cats to take. Especially with a lifted truck, thieves wouldn't even have to jack up the car. I think at the bare minimum, etching the vin number (or a partial sequence at least) would be a good start. That wouldn't prevent the theft...
