    Ethanol Gasoline Mileage Improvement

Only my personal observation, and sorry that it is not on a 4Runner. I had a flex fuel Ford Explorer that could ingest E-85, so the difference in gas mileage was significantly pronounced: when using E-85, mpg went down 21-23% when hand calculated. I once did a calculation that let me know...

    4th Gen V8 Transmission Durability

After 12 years of continuous Ford Explorer ownership, I was forced into buying a replacement vehicle while on vacation towing a camper, two days before hauling it and the family into the Colorado Rockies: the Ford Explorer's transmission was dying at 120k miles - go figure. Without much of any...

Congrats on the ride! However, just because it's a 4x4 with decent off road capabilities doesn't mean you have to park on the sidewalk. :wink2: Treat it well, and you'll have opportunity after college to dud it up, unless you're on the 8-year plan. Enjoy!

Anything about your 4R that just drives you crazy?????

Loosing all power, when I need it most, to punch through that snow drift with some momentum still left (forget telling me to lock the diff).

Warning for those who have Hitch Mount Cargo Platform.

Good info. I had not yet mounted my cargo platform on mine yet. I will definitely be aware. Nothing like travelling 10 hours into the Rockies to be with family for Christmas, and their presents looking like burnt toast.

    Towing question/help

Check the verbiage used, and I quote the Owners Manual: Towing capacity: For weight carrying hitch 2268 kg (5000 lb.) Also for weight distributing hitch (4.7 L V8 [2UZ−FE] engine only) Two−wheel drive models 3311 kg (7300 lb.) Four−wheel drive models 3175 kg (7000 lb.) The WDH is an option, not...

    Towing question/help

Depends on your state laws, but agreed. I would NOT want to be in front of that setup during an emergency stopping situation when you're pulling 9k of trailer with no trailer brakes. I have the V8 with the frame mounted factory hitch, and 5k is the max for it, even, without adding in a WDH...

Advice Needed on Towing Set up on 2005 T4R Ltd V8

After changing over from a Ford Explorer V6 this summer to my '07 SE V8 (love the power boost!!) while on vacation camping, I had to buy an all new hitch setup to tow my camper. I did the measurements, bought a 2" drop and ball. As I lowered the camper tongue onto the ball, the back of the...

    Removing Fog Light Bulbs

You are indicating the front marker/running light. It is on even when your lights are not turned on. Toyota's idea of a DRL for the runner?? (poor, IMO). Just start your vehicle, leaving the lights off, and take a look at the front. They're on. There is a TSB on how to disable it.
