    Rear window stopped working

According to the 1987 FSM, there are two inputs to the "Power Window and Wiper Relay." One input begins at the Battery, runs through an 80A fuse, and then through the circuit breaker to the relay. The other input begins at the battery, runs through a 30A fuse, through the ignition switch, and...

Another high idle on 22re question...

While your rig is idling (high), open your hood and press on the back (close to the fire wall) of the throttle linkage (the part on the throttle body that your throttle cable is attached to and is held back by the spring). Does your idle go down to normal when you do this? If so your dashpot...

    85 22r with Auto Trans

85 22re with Auto Trans How common is the automatic transmission in an 85? Did the automatics have issues? Are parts difficult to come by? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

    oil pressure gauge question

First off, I have an 87 22RE that has ~3K on a rebuild soooo not sure how this affects oil pressure...more...less...some say less is more (heh!). Regardless, my oil pressure needle never gets to the center position. At warm idle (800 - 900 RPM), it goes below the quarter tick and at ~60MPH it...

    4x4 question...Help me out here

Weld the front differential. Yes...it will be harder to turn, but IMHO not that bad. You should not drive it locked on a surface (like dry pavement) where the tires can't slip a bit. You'll go places you couldn't before...and most rigs still can't.

    1987 4runner 4cyl no heat

It is quite possible that your heater core is clogged/restricted...eventhough not leaking. I recommend removing the heater core and running water through it from your garden hose (don't use high pressure). If the water runs out freely then you know your core is OK. Also, you might check to...

    identify these wires?

    Yep, mine's a plain jane 4 banger. Sorry I couldn't help.

    identify these wires?

What year is your vehicle? My 87 does not have the ground wire. Where your ground wire is attached to the fender well, I have a power steering fluid reservoir. In the next set of photos, the white connector (single wire) goes directly to my AC compressor. I don't have the black connector tee...

Issue with loud noise coming from engine

I had a similar experience. Interesting that you question the power steering. I had the power steering tensioner pulley to seize. It sounded like the engine had thrown a rod...man was I scared. The engine would "knock" loudly then after 60 seconds or so get quiet. Look closely at the...

    Saggy rear-end

Thanks for posting your info. You've really helped me alot. I didn't know what OME stood for...now I do. I'll let you know once I get them installed and maybe send some pics.

    1st Gen Questions

I recommend you go ahead and buy a power steering tension pulley bearing. The bearing on my 87 seized after it had sat up only a couple of months recently. If yours has A/C, that tension pulley is suspect as well. I'd also consider replacing all belts. Tires may be dry-rotted...be careful...

Replace Muffler?; Is It Worth It?

The muffler on my 87 4Runner seems to "muffle" just fine. However, the exhaust pipe (between catalytic conv and muffler) is leaking at a joint. I don't know the age of the muffler. Should I just weld it up and go or replace the muffler whilst I have the opportunity? Also, how do I determine...

    Saggy rear-end

Would you recommend a source for new leaf springs? I see JCWhitney has them for $125 each. Not sure if their springs are good or bad. I did the web search and saw SuspensionKing as well but not sure about their price yet. I don't want lift...no more than 2" max. I just don't want to...

    Saggy rear-end

What is my best approach to solve the same problem for an 87? I looked at the moog site and the earliest model supported is an 89.

What's the going rate for an '86-89 4Runner?

I just bought an 87 SR5 5-Spd in North Alabama that has 243K and ~2K on rebuilt 22RE for $2K. It has 31" tires (trail busters...cheap but pretty good off road), rear aussie locker, marlin front bumper (no stinger), rock rails, custom built rear bumper, welded front diff and 99.5% rust free...
