    g2 vs yukon

I don’t know about new brands, but after a dozen years or so, my 4:88 G2 gears are still holding up fine. Just changed the gear oil in my diffs after several years and everything looked good and still pretty clean oil.

3rd Gen Tacoma TRD Off Road Wheels (Black Vinyl) OEM - SoCal

Set of 4 wheels off my 2021 TRD Off Road Tacoma. They’re blacked-out with vinyl decals… I did it about 1 1/2 years ago and all the decals are holding up great, they’ll last for several more years. The decals can easily be peeled off tho, if you prefer the 2-tone black/chrome look instead of all...

I checked my fan clutch when I did the timing belt and it had good resistance still, but at least if it ever starts to go, like you said, it’s cheap and super easy to swap out. With the low miles I put on this thing per year, it’ll be a long long time before it hits 400K (it has about 233K on...

Hi, yes I did put a new thermostat in (OEM 180* with jiggle valve at 6 o’clock). I had an aftermarket thermo in there before and I regularly saw engine temps in the 200-210* range. Now on a 105* day, it didn’t get over 199*. I don’t know if it’s my full skids keeping some heat in around my...

What’s up James! How’s it going? Yes, Michael, Chris And I have been doing this trip yearly since about 2007, but Chris just broke his leg and had to have a few screws installed, so I think he’s out for this year. I tried to upload a few pics of the ol’ beast, but it kept saying “file failed”...

    Brian2sun Build Thread

Just finished a ton of maintenance over the past month. I hadn’t done these things in 10-20 years, so even tho I only put 2-3K miles on a year on this truck, it was time. I started with the diffs and t-case oil and then flushed the tranny with 12 quarts of new ATF (using the tranny’s own pump -...

    Flexing locks up rear brakes

I’m 100% sure it’s only flexing that causes the issue. I have not had the issue for 10 years - ever since I disconnected the e brake line from the drum (I just haven’t had a functional e brake since, so it would be nice to have one again). I’ve replaced the rear axel seals twice in the 20 years...

    Flexing locks up rear brakes

Wow, if it’s that easy I owe you a 6 pack. I have not tried that, so we’ll see... The brakes have been functioning normally ever since I disconnected the e brake cable about 10 years ago, so that’s why I’ve been leaning towards a cable tension issue. The brakes locking up only happened when I...

    Flexing locks up rear brakes

It is weird. One thing’s for certain... when I disconnect the e brake cable from the D/S drum the brakes no longer lock up. After an hour or so on the trails, I would always start to smell brakes and the truck wouldn’t do the slow roll in “Drive”. So I’d go release the drums manually through the...

    Flexing locks up rear brakes

A bracket extension won’t work for me since the line is already hanging free without the brackets and my brakes still lock up with flexing. I haven’t found an small (like 1”) extension for the e brake cable anywhere, but I think that’s what I need.

    Flexing locks up rear brakes

I’ve had my 3rd gen for 20 years. It’s been lifted for most of that time. I have OME 861s with stock Landcruiser FJZ80 shocks in the rear. Been running this setup for about 10 years and love it for the lift, flex and added payload capacity. But, when I first changed to these coils and shocks...

Thanks! These Aluma 2.0s are awesome. They ride fantastic. They haven’t sagged at all in the 5 or so months I’ve had them on the truck (and they still have room to adjust higher if I ever need it) and I got a solid 2.5” of lift with them set from the factory. I did crank the collar down a few...

Good to see you’re still on here and still have your truck too Brian! I’m the same way... busy with 2 little girls and lots of work lately. I play bass full time in 2 different bands these days, as well as restoring and fixing old instruments in my little home workshop, so now that the country...

Another little update... I got the Yakima rack a few months ago because my factory rack had finally broken after almost 25 years. I also wanted a means to mount an awning. I really didn’t want a basket on the roof because the Yakima bars work better for strapping my kayak to than a basket (and I...
