yes i did find the problem. the last owner hired a crappy mechanic to change a burnt valve and so they changed the head gasket while they were in there. the mechanic used two left side head gaskets (don't ask why) and so some of the fluid flow ports were blocked on the right side head...

ok so here's what I found, eventually the head gasket did fail and I started to see white gunk on the oil cap. so I changed the head gaskets and found that the gaskets that were installed were freaking reversed!! left side on right side and vice Versa. actually, no. it was two left side...

just pulled the relay from the CDS fan (AC system I believe. Not sure why there's two CDS fan relays when there's only one AC fan but whatever) and plugged it into the EFI relay spot and all is well. CE light comes on everytime the key is turned on and she starts right up. Thanks again...

thanks man. I did call the dealer today; they quoted me $130 for the relay! So,... I called the parts store. $32 there, not cheap but not $130. I think I'm gonna try and find a similar relay for something else and swap 'em and see if that fixes it.

Got the fan clutch from auto zone. The fan roars when I first start the engine and then slows down to normal after a few minutes--so I know it has the potential to run full speed, I just never hear that same roar when I slow down and the temp rises. drive belts are tight too. I lose a little...
