I could definitely replace the rear axle, but it failed the safety inspection due to rust, so I don't want to put money into it since I can't drive it legally after a few more weeks.

I am currently driving '97 with 309,000 miles. (from my dad)
My dad has retired the following:
'92 Corolla wagon-201k (From HIS dad)
'72 Carina- Odometer turned over twice, then stopped working with 74k showing.
Various early/mid '80's Tercels- At least 2 over 200k...
New to the forum... Proud owner of a '97 4Runner SR5. As of this second, 308,992 miles. Just inherited this beast from my Dad in early winter. Body is in close to perfect condition. Just failed MD state inspection due to rust on the under carriage/frame. I can still drive it for a few more...
