I'm wondering, if using the inflatable bed in a no-slider cargo area, would the "hump" be as noticeable? In other words, would the mattress somewhat conform to the bottom of the cargo area and provide a reasonably comfortable sleeping surface? I've been meaning to try this.

That's not an aftermarket bull guard. If you look at the 2014 Trail Editions (check Toyota website), you'll see Toyota installed these silver painted "skid plate" accent pieces - although they are plastic and really only cosmetic. Several Trail owners on this site have blacked out these pieces...

I really wish my Trail had some enclosed storage like that. I've been comtemplating the Antman/Harper7 wheel well storage mod, but I have some hesitation about intentionally breaking things on my brand new vehicle.

That definitely does not look like the back of my 2014 Trail Premium. The storage space provided there (on the TE) has no door (and doesn't look like it should have a door).
