    Extended Cranking Time '01 3.4L

Well, I guess you raise a valid point. I'm not a savvy enough mechanic to say one way or the other. I guess a good thing to know would be how these trucks started when they were brand new. Did they fire quickly back then, or did a lot of them have to crank for quite a while even when new?

Hmmm--that's really interesting. When I read comments like this, it makes me hesitant to replace the fuel pump or an O2 sensor because this makes me think it's not an age/wear related issue. It would lead me to believe it's something else, such as poor grounding that's been causing the extra...

I assume you're referring to the first O2 sensor? Were you getting any codes or a CEL with the old sensor?

I've read through that thread about Gerdo's situation, and it seemed to me like his issues were hot-start related. Mine starts quicker on a hot restart. I'm hesitant to throw more parts/money at it without really diagnosing the problem. Mine gets driven nearly every day, but recently it sat...

I used new Wix filters for the both the fuel and air. I highly doubt using Wix filters is causing any problems. Besides that, replacing these items hasn't changed the cranking time at all.

Well, that's what the two Toyota mechanics who have looked at it said. They claim all the 3.4's in 4Runners take more cranking time.

I'd say it always takes at least 3-4 seconds of cranking before it fires if left sitting overnight. If it was up to operating temp and just shut off for a couple minutes, then it usually starts much quicker--about 1-2 seconds of cranking before firing. I know 3-4 seconds doesn't sound like...

I have an '01 SR5 4Runner (3.4L, automatic tranny) that cranks longer than I think it should before firing regardless of ambient temp. It's been acting the same since I bought it last year with 75K miles, so I'm not sure how it acted when new. It cranks over just fine with plenty of...

    HELP...Mud Guards......

Greetings, I have an '01 SR5 that came from the factory with the thin chrome fender "flares" and running boards. I'd like to remove the boards, but I don't want to be left without any front mud flaps/guards. I'm completely confused which mud guards I need get for a correct fit. I was ready...
