One Click and then all power dead - battery seems fine, Starter Contacts?

The headlights were not working as well - nothing of any power would work which seemed odd. Lesson learned (relearned), I went down a troubleshooting path and didn't start with the easiest and cheapest option first. I should have known because I had a similar issue with my son's 3rd gen...

One Click and then all power dead - battery seems fine, Starter Contacts?

Interesting behavior, testing the voltage in that manner to the fuse box appears to reset something because power is back but then I try to start again and it goes back to disconnect state with the one click. Now trying again, it isn't resetting and the testing polarity is switched - the large...

One Click and then all power dead - battery seems fine, Starter Contacts?

I've been testing at the battery posts/terminals + to - I only see one large wire in the fuse junction box (positive feed). Voltage from that wire to frame is 12.8v and from negative terminal/post to large wire is also 12.8v. Would that lead you to believe this is a starter relay issue (the...

One Click and then all power dead - battery seems fine, Starter Contacts?

From the searches I've done, it sounds like this might be a case of starter contacts but I didn't find my exact use case so wanted to get some input/thoughts before I headed down the wrong path. This is my daughters 4runner - last week she wasn't able to lock with the key fob going into a...

Lower Ball Joint Torque and Failure Question

I had the same thing last week when replacing my LBJ and I had the same concerns about over tightening. I ended up removing the castle nut, popped the tapered bolt out of the arm again with my puller, twisted the ball join slightly - about what I thought I needed to get the hole to line up...

    01 4Runner low brake pedal???

I think the brakes working with a quick pumping and equated as a sign of air in the lines is because the fronts grab a little with a quick jab/pump because they are closest to the MC and engage the rotor and grab a little at first. We feel it because they do most the stopping power compared to...

    01 4Runner low brake pedal???

I just had the same issue on a new to me 3rd gen. Turned rotors, new front pads, flushed fluid/bled lines starting at passenger rear ending at driver front. Brakes worked, but it felt like they didn't really engage until i pressed in about 50% or more (low brake pedal, not really soft, per...

How many inches of jack stand lift do I need to install lift spacer/bushings?

If you are buying them, you might want to go to the 6 ton 24" version. I had 16" 3 ton for my lift but using 2x6"s to add height felt a little sketchy. it worked, just if you are buying, you might want to spend a little more for ones that actually aren't fully extended and/or need wood blocks...

    Common Broken Parts During Trips

What trails are on your list? A lot of the trails in Moab are close to town and there are parts stores in town that carry most items you might need, plus several 4x4 shops that can help as well. When I first started wheeling, I had the same concerns, "what should I bring so I don't get...

Gasoline smell inside vehicle - 4.7

Did you ever find the source of your gas smell? Reason I ask is I had a similar experience on the trail. Tank half full and I could actual see vapor coming from the filler door. Opened the door and it was wet with gas in the filler area. Opened the cap but it was dry and saw the same fog...

4.0L V6 VVT Oil Control Valves

I haven't had this on my 4runner but replaced oil solenoids on my RX300. My symptom was CEL codes that corresponded to the solenoid/valve for bank 1 as well as a mis-fire on 1-3-5. I only replaced both with ones off Amazon - Dorman at ~$45. I did both since they were only $45/ea and I was...

Tie rod bolt spins I’ve tried everything I know or can find.

I believe you can put a hex wrench into the end of the bolt to keep it from spinning.

    Roof weight max and Kayaks

Two Sea Kayaks weighing in at ~60 pounds each with some gear. They are sitting on a Thule rack attached to the stock rails. With the lift it is difficult to load them solo - not a problem with two people. There is at technique where I can lift the cockpit of the kayak to my shoulder as if I...

Rear passenger windows wont roll up or down

Check that the window lock button is not engaged. Might not be the issue since first one and then the other stopped working but is an easy check. Also check the fuses in the engine compartment. I think there are separate fuses for each door.
