I'll defer to Old Red since he is the only one to of done it thus far. We haven't found a way to do it non-intrusively over the diag port. It involves removing the MPX, opening it, desoldering the flash chip, and dumping it. That will likely scare most off.:fear:

In recent years it seems only the MPX firmware is different. The wiring harness for the photocell is already present. That does seem to differ on 4runners more than a couple years old as they don't seem to have the photocell harness from the factory. The stalk/switch and associated harness also...

CdS photocells are simple resistor devices. There is no way to directly "share" one without affecting the reading from it. The way the 4Runner gets around this is the MPX/BCM reads the photocell directly and then broadcasts that info to the rest of the vehicle via the CAN bus. That way any...
