I don't think it's piston slap because it doesn't do it when the engine is cold but becomes audible after it's fully warmed up and has been drive for a while. Thanks for posting the link to that thread, it is one that I had read through previously- but no apparent answers there.

There are other threads on this issue. I have a thump/knock while in gear after the truck has been fully warmed up and driven a while. The noise goes away in P or N. Dealership changed timing belt and "tightened things up" and this helped quiet the noise somewhat until I had the other drive...

Hmm, maybe try some vice grips set firmly? You could even wrap the fittings with a rag first to try to prevent more damage, as long as you get them on there well. Not sure what else you can do.

Flush the steering system before you remove the old rack. Then fill up and bleed after putting the new rack on.

I'm not sure about the body panels. For the frame however, I would sand as much rust off as possible, then use some metal "etching" chemical (Metal Ready by POR-15). I'm not a fan of the POR-15 paint because for me it flaked off after a year. Instead, I would use Rustoleum rusty and clean...

Huh, I'm not sure what to tell you, I'm not an "expert". I would say flush with water and get as much out after that. If you get most of the water out before putting your new stuff in, you should be fine.

Well, I flipped the thermostat that was in my 4runner so the jiggle valve was at 6 o-clock instead of 12 o-clock (FSM says install it at 6 o-clock). Indeed, my running temps went from 202-206 down to 190-193. Should be smooth sailing now. Thanks 4runnerers

Hmm, was your old thermostat a factory toyota part? I replaced the entire cooling system within the last 2 years. 1st-- water pump. After a year, I replaced the radiator, hoses, cap, t-stat and coolant. Went from the 180s to now at 204-206. It was the same for 2 brand new toyota t-stats. I...

Depends on what you want to do with your truck. I just replaced the stock bumper with a new one, because I don't want the weight of a custom one and I won't be rock crawling. It would be nice to mount the spare tire on the back with some kind of swing out bar though.
