Does your CEL come on? I had something similar happen to my runner. Same shuddering when initially accelerating then stops at a higher rpm. There was a misfire in one of the cylinders and it ended up being the coil pack for that cylinder was bad.

ok thanks for the advice. Just to clarify it seems like the top metal washer on the dust boot would break if I pulled it down. You're talking about the silver metal rod when referring to the shaft not the yellow part right?

Another question... What is the proper order of the bushings and washers on top. It doesn't seems there is room to use channel locks on the shaft unless I miss understood you. Sorry totally confused still. how do you pull down the dust cover? It only seems to go down so far.

You might need to grease your steering stops. It happened on my runner when i turn all the way to lock right or left. Greased them and the sound went away. Theres a thread on it somewhere I'll try to find it for you
