Thanks! That's what I figured. Just wasn't sure if anybody has experienced any cold related issues. I still find that my FJ62 does the best in the extreme cold. No doodads or anything to foul up. Now if I could just get it to blow hot air.

Any issues with the KDSS in extreme cold environments? Like -40F or colder for extended periods?

Wow, those FJ rims look amazing. My GF's going to be needing new rims soon (one set for summer tires and one for winter). I may just look into a set of these for summertime and let the stockers hold the winter tires.

Thanks for such a great how-to. I actually have to do this with the gf's 4runner sometime. I've been waiting for it to warm up and I think 20 degrees is going to be the best I get.

The gf's 2002 4Runner's gas gauge is far from reliable. Many times she'll start off in the morning with 3/4 of a tank. After driving into town, about 8 miles, it'll read 1/4 of a tank. When she parks it at work and goes to leave, it'll show empty with no gas light. For such a simple problem...

Meh.. it's tough to speculate like that. The cracked trim on the fat lip could have happened by tapping a solid object on a curb or sidewalk. Plastic stuff breaks, no big deal. As for the crooked trim (good eye btw), who knows what that could be from. Probably some sort of front end...

You could probably make the box just a bit shorter in height, then devise some sort of folding or sliding apparatus to the front (right behind the rear seats) that can be unfolded or slid out to create a "sleeping extension" for when the seats are folded flat. Hopefully that makes sense. I've...

Depending on how cold it is in Ohio, your wheel sensors could be iced up, too. Some of the trucks at work are really bad for this, as we park them in a warehouse. We'll take them out for a while, run them around, park them inside for a little while, and next time we take them out the ABS light...

@OP I know this doesn't immediately solve your problem, but most auto parts stores have a cross reference by the bulbs or at the counter. Hell, even Walmart and most chain stores with an auto section have a cross reference.

Toyota recommends shifting into 4H once a month or something like that to keep the actuator from "sticking", or so I've heard and read. Like one poster said, sounds like it could be actuator related or electrical.

I look forward to the results. Having driven 6 Toyotas (one of which is a 2002 4runner) on a regular basis in <-40 degree weather, I've never come across such a problem. I've always had trouble getting moving rather than stopping. Damn square tires.

I think the only problem with taking a vehicle in and out of 4wd is the fact that some drivers (*cough* the complacent ones that shouldn't be on the road) tend to forget what mode they're in and try to do something and not get the results they were looking for. The nice thing about 2001-2002...
