First experience at a junk yard

Usually they are well supported, usually. For rear coils I think I just kicked them out, can't recall, the vehicle was up on those wheel things, and if the shocks are old then good luck they are a pain to get out. For the trans pan I don't think they drain all the fluids so it might get messy...

MAF question and sludge in intake

Not sure about the sludge but my 97 has the same gap that I also noticed, I just put some foam tape around the maf and reconnected it to the air box, seemed to seal the gap.

What aux gauges do you run?

I use an auto meter trans temp gauge and also the Torque app on my smartphone with a wifi OBDII port tool (it gives me most of the readouts I want to know, like water temp, voltage, etc.). The only other one I want is a oil pressure gauge as there is only a pressure switch in my 97.

    spark plug gap?

I went to the dealership last summer and just asked for spark plugs for my 1997 3.4, they gave me dual (denso) plugs and said they are pre gapped. Just pop them in. I would think if they wanted single electrode they would have gave me those instead.

Hey just saw this, haven't been out for a while but I was also looking to do more back country exploring. Throw me a PM if your still looking for people to go with!
