I will third that recommendation on both brake controller unit and placement. I have mine there and for the most part never notice it. No problem using the controls or reading the display.

Mine were like that for a while. Steering wheel controls still worked, but air bag light was on. Now steering controls have gone out also. Need to replace the clock spring. . .

Sorry, I don't have the inner dimension. I couldn't get my calipers in the with the dust caps and the joint installed. Hope somebody else can chime in for you.

When I bought mine Icon sent one set of installation adhesive rings and one set of replacement adhesive rings along with the caps.
