I'm going to assume that it is the tires, too. I had 265 bfgoodrich rugged terrains on my truck, and they were terrible in the snow/ice, even when new. I bought some cheap no name winter tires and the 4runner is now awesome in the snow.

The nice thing about -36 is that it makes -22 feel fantastic! I was outside without a coat cleaning the snow off of my 4runner and was surprised at how nice it felt.

I do have some questions in regards to this particular SE. I'm curious as to why it does not have the tubular SE side steps, and why it has a tacoma-esque skid plate. Also, the Sport Edition emblems on the doors do not say 4WD. Maybe Canadian 4runners were slightly different than their American...

The ms2's rate very well for ice traction, for an all season tire. I just talked to a guy a couple of days ago who replaced his ms2's with x-ice3 winter tires (I bought his ms2's) and he said that the difference in traction wasn't as big as he thought it would be, and somewhat regretted...

According to Environment Canada, it is -33C, but the outside air temp display in my 4runner shows -30C. Earlier when it was -32C out, the display still read -30C.

How concerned are you with your fuel mileage? It seems that most people report a loss in fuel economy when switching to more aggressive tires. Depending on how aggressive you go, tire noise can be a real problem. That may not matter to you much, though. Unsprung weight can make for a worse ride...

I'm interested in getting in on the group buy. Put me down for a set of bronze, please! :) I have 265/70/17 winter tires on my stock wheels, so would like some 18's for towing in the summer. The Level 8 mk6's are way too heavy (over 30lbs ea), and the FN BFD's are beautiful and light, but $1200.
