Alternator+smoke=no bueno

Ok, the plot thickens. Checked all the relays, fuses and connections that I could find, all seemed fine. Was doing a spark check and the thing fired up on 4 cylinders. Couldn't believe it. Killed it, put the plug and ignition coil back in, and it refused to start. Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.

    Alternator+smoke=no bueno

Yeah, checked fuses and they all appear to be ok. New battery installed and the truck turns over nice and strong but won't fire up and idle. Correct me if I'm wrong but with a new battery shouldn't the truck be able to fire up even if the alternator is not working? Just trying to isolate the...

    Alternator+smoke=no bueno

Hey guys. Started up my runner the other night and I heard a whine from the engine bay. Made it from startup, regardless of if the truck was in gear. On the drive home all of a sudden the dash warning lights (everything, check engine, oil, abs, battery etc) came on for about 1 second and the...

Rear Cargo Door auto latching device.

Yup, I had to have mine replaced due to water intrusion. It's super easy to get at and remove, but the motor/mechanism is stupidly expensive. Mine was covered under a dealer warranty, think the total bill was over $500....

I think I found the button that controls my dealer installed alarm (help)

Yeah, that looks like a valet switch, which is supposed to disable/reset the alarm. I replaced the battery on my 06 and found that it had an aftermarket alarm with a broken valet switch, (couldn't shut the alarm off) so I just traced the wiring back to the alarm's brain box and disconnected...

    285 or 255, Hmm......

Nice! Yeah, I came sooooo close to going with 255s, especially since they are right at home in snow.

    285 or 255, Hmm......

No prob dude! I am really impressed with those tires. Stopping distance is a little longer and acceleration is slightly decreased and I lost a bit of mpg but it's more than worth it. I also highly recommend ditching the running boards once you throw on the new rubber if you haven't already...

    285 or 255, Hmm......

Bam! ~original[/IMG] Daystar kit with no wheel spacers as of yet. Bit of rubbing at full lock in reverse with flex, but none other than that. Love it!!

    285 or 255, Hmm......

Will do! I'll snap some photo today and upload them. I really like the setup, the KO2s have a super agressive tread, but they're quiet on the highway.

AWESOME truck man! How did you attach the led spot/floods to the yakima rack? Looks really good.

    Alarm going bats#$t crazy

Whew! Finally got the alarm shut off, found the brain box after trying the valet switch (which was broken) and went ahead and removed the alarm system by disconnecting the wire leading to the box. My question- I only disconnected the wires to and from the box, I didn't trace them back and and...

    4Th Gen Chat Thread

Ya, I was born in Tallahassee and I've got family all over Florida, there are definitely nice bits of the state but mostly it's hot and buggy and there are a truly breathtaking amount of fat old people. Not my cup of tea. Moving to Cali next year. Done with the dreary winters in Washington.

    Alarm going bats#$t crazy

Gotcha, thanks. I pulled the panel and I see a two added wires (about 16 gauge) around the fuse block that have in-line fuse holders. Pulling the fuses didn't stop the alarm, but I'm sure they're connected because except for a stereo there are no other aftermarket electronics in the truck.

    Alarm going bats#$t crazy

Hey guys, 06 SR5, just pulled the battery cables to clean, when I reconnected them the alarm goes crazy. I hit the unlock button on the fob, jumped in turned the key to "on" and manually tried locking/unlocking the truck with the key. No good, alarm still going off. Pulled the horn fuse to shut...
