Advice on replacing a bad distributor

Yeah exactly! The old one is really hard to manually crank and it just grinds. Noise comes from under that big threaded gear you see under the rotor. My guess would be the seal on the bearings failed and they are dry and pulverized? Just glad it was such an easy fix.

Advice on replacing a bad distributor

Thanks man! Got the new one in the mail today, whole proc took less than half hour, LOL. Like you said, I just marked all the plugs with a sharpee, marked where the rotor was aand made absolutely sure the gears lined up in the same spot while putting the new one in. Piece of cake, and really...

Advice on replacing a bad distributor

Thanks man! Gonna give it a try I think, have the new part on the way in a couple days. your advice seems to line up with pretty much everything I read. In case anyone else is reading this in the future with a similar problem. Best RTFM I found is here. I probably should buy a book, but just...

Advice on replacing a bad distributor

So I noticed a funny sound, like a loose belt I thought. I popped the hood and a funny noise is coming from my distributor! Never replaced one and hoping to get some advise from the pros here. It's a 1990 6 cyl 3.0 EFI. So first thing I did is dist pop the cap open, it was rusty and grimey...

Removing the lock cylinder? 1990 4runner

Very concerned. They went into my garage, stole my paintball guns, my carbon fiber mountain bike, and the keys to the 4runner parked in my driveway. I was actually able to roll it back from my driveway behind a secure gate, guarded by my 2 pitts and "disabled" in a couple places. And yes, the...

Removing the lock cylinder? 1990 4runner

Keys were stolen. I talked to a locksmith and they said it's $25 each lock if I bring it in, $50 each lock if they come out. So I'm hoping to pop each door lock off and the ignition. I'm pretty sure I won't have any trouble with the doors, but has anyone done the ignition? I tried googling the...

2nd Gen 1995 Model year should I buy?

What part of the country you at? The price you are paying is almost double what they go for in Vegas. Fly out here, buy a car, drop 2k on hookers and slot machines and drive back. You'll spend the same amount and have a great time in the bargain... :) Didn't do a lot of research, but here is...

    Buying a 4runner

I recently purchased a 1990 4x4 V6 as well. I paid $2300 for one with 178k miles but that was in Las Vegas, so perhaps regionally prices are different. I would also recommend going with a private seller and would prefer a car with miles that add up correctly. There is something very suspicious...

    87 4 Runner Build

Nice thread and loving this documentation! I think your dash looks perfect and am hoping to achieve similar results. Had a question about the texture coating. Did you just use a spray on then? I see you used SEM? I did a quick google search and found this, did you use similar? SprayPaintDepot -...

    Mercedes 5cyl TDI in 86 4Runner

Pretty Interesting. How reliable is that engine vs a Toyota though? I recall when diesel used to be so cheap, this might have been even more awesome.

Advice on installing Jungle Fender Flares?

So i thought i would include the rest of the documentation in case anyone comes here in the future looking for advice. Bottom line is the back was very easy, took less than half an hour. Like was stated earlier just have someone hold them on, get some #8 self tapping screws with basic washers...

    Never off-road.

Mine has only been off the pavement 2x so I voted no, but I have a decent excuse, I've only owned it 3 weeks. Haven't got it built like I want yet. :lookout:
