    check valve, booster or what

Have you adjusted the rear brakes properly? Clearly the brakes have been bled to death so I highly doubt that's your issue. Rear brakes being too far out of adjustment has a huge effect on how the pedal feels so start there. I feel like you're overlooking this. You mentioned that all the...

POLL: When Did Your 3rd-Gen 4Runner or 1st Gene Taco Lower Ball-Joint Fail?

I replaced the LBJ @ 255k, OTRE @ 256k and the UBJ @ 267k. All were done to prevent any issues down the road, especially given the high mileage. No play in any of the joints. I imagine most replies will be that they were replaced before failure, especially given the common knowledge and...

WTB: 5th Spare Tire/Wheel (Chicago area)

Thanks for the offer but I'm sure shipping would be pretty insane. I'm hoping to find one local-ish to me.

WTB: 5th Spare Tire/Wheel (Chicago area)

Looking for a stock 17" 5th gen spare with tire (265/70R17) I'm sure someone has one laying around they aren't using anymore. I'm not very interested in an alloy wheel, looking for a steel spare in particular to keep down the possibility of it getting stolen.

Sold: 5th gen OEM Trail/TRD off road suspension, Chino, CA

They fit fine, as sit about equal to 99 Talls. Springs only though, you can't use the shocks, they're too long.

3rd Gen rear window roll up with factory remote mod

Well done on the research and execution. While I don't have a huge interest in doing this I really appreciate your passion to make it happen and sharing it. Being completely reversible makes it even better.

Anyone used WitchHunter for injector refurb?

Another customer of theirs chiming in here. I used them for my project car a few years back (1986 VW Scirocco) when I was converting over to EFI. The injectors I used were well over 20 years old and I wanted the piece of mind knowing they were in good shape. Solid service and a quick...

Help Any trick to disconnect door lock actuator motor power connector?

No tool needed. Squeeze the tab on the connector and and then pull on it. I also recommend swearing at it as well, that usually helps.

Cam Shaft Seals - Should They Be Replaced?

I've been working as a tech for a Toyota dealer for over 15 years now and the only time I have ever replaced cam seals on a 5VZ was on mine earlier this year. I had around 272k on the engine at the time and they were not leaking. I was doing VCG at the same time so they were very easy to do...

    Cylinder Scar Armchair Technicians speculate

Wow that is some deep pitting. At this point it doesn't matter what caused it, the block is probably junk. It looks so deep that getting it bored out might not even be possible let alone worth the cost.

Where to find 99 tall springs...

The reason I mention "stock length shocks" is because the 5th gen rear springs have a shorter free height then the 99 springs do. When I did the comparison I was installing 5100s (the 0-2" lift version) as well and with the extended length those shocks provide the 5th gens were a little loose...

Where to find 99 tall springs...

If you want your vehicle to sit at the height of 99 Talls why not get yourself a set of stock 5th gen springs? They sit at an almost identical height and have a thicker coil diameter, not to mention you can get them dirt cheap. In this thread I shared some measurements I took when trying them...

    So, NGK says NO anti-sieze

I've been working on cars for 20 years now, and never have I used any of that stuff on plugs, it's completely unnecessary. The factory doesn't put any on and modern engines have 100k mile replacement intervals, never had a single issue with one being stuck.
