i have a 02 sr5 4x4 3.4L and i need some advice, it starts fine but when i put it in D or R it just dies some tell me the torque converter is locked and a mechanic said (over the phone) it sounds like the overdrive gear broke and had a few in his shop and he quoted me $2800 for a rebuild parts...

I took out the starter and it's fine. Next i will take the TB out.

i took off the timing belt cover and looks like there is a lot of corrosion build up it's the same color as the coolant rite where the head and the engine block meet, i guess it's leaking from the head gasket? someone told me it is probably hydro lock? he said that maybe some coolant got into...

Took off all the belts and still no luck

thanks for all the help guys! i used a big breaker bar to try and turn the motor clockwise at the crank bolt but no luck. Next i will take off the accessories belts. i checked the timing belt and its still in place! thank you for all your help and i will keep you guys posted!

i used a breaker bar, just followed the steps in a repair manual for starter motor testing in vehicle. Before this happend everything was fine, no strange noise correct oil level, water and yeah gas. I don't understand why this happend, it didn't overheat or anything.
