I had a weird issue similar to this with my truck. No warning, no click from the starter relay, just nothing when you turned the key. Turns out, I had a short in the little wire that grounds the negative battery terminal to the body. I replaced that and she fires up every time now.

I had this problem when I bought my 97. The ignition lock cylinder is a common issue with these trucks. I picked up an OEM lock cylinder and swapping it out took all of 10 minutes. It turns like butter now. I didn't go through the trouble of having the new cylinder keyed to match my locks, so I...
