2002 Gas Pedal No Response Issue

I'm already worried about the sustainability of this kind of replacement. Thinking about what will happen after the next 250k miles and the new one starts to act up... I guess to be fair a lot of other cars would have already exploded by now. But a new TB is definitely the next step.

2002 Gas Pedal No Response Issue

The way I understand it is the pedal is attached to a cable which runs to the pedal position sensor on the throttle body, and the pedal definitely pulls that cable. I had to tighten it a while back and replace this rubber bushing that's on the pedal side to keep it from being so loose, which you...

2002 Gas Pedal No Response Issue

I've looked into this problem before I decided to make this post, I noticed there's some conflicting info or just straight up wrong information, but based on what I've read I've gathered what I think is all the relevant information on what I'm experiencing. Here's to hoping that there's a fix...

Just did the steering column play fix, but there's still a little looseness

My bad, it doesn't really seem to have a name other than "those U joints", although that whole piece is called the intermediate shaft. Either way I've checked on the real rag joint now too and it's solid, which looks like that just means I need to fix the clunk in those U joints. I'm thinking...

Just did the steering column play fix, but there's still a little looseness

Looks like it must be the rag joint then. I took the cover off to look and there's some distinct clunkiness to it. If I had to pick a repair to do I think I would go with what this thread suggests and double up on those wave washers. The thread lists the size of that washer but I can't find any...

Just did the steering column play fix, but there's still a little looseness

This is the fix that I did, except instead of welding I drilled a hole and put in a small screw. Also did the fix with making a shim out of an oil bottle to put in the tilt ball mechanism. Turning the wheel and holding the shaft now it's rock solid, so the looseness has to be deeper than that.

Just did the steering column play fix, but there's still a little looseness

I did the steering rack bushing replacement a couple years ago now but recently the steering column got sloppy so I took it apart and did the fix for the tilt ball and the slip joint. The column is nice and tight now and the steering feels like it did after replacing the rack bushings, but the...

p0420 with new catalytic converter and O2 sensor

Sorry for the really late reply but I ended up replacing the entire exhaust and it was able to finally fix the code. Unfortunately not a quick and cheap fix! I think the main reason was because only 1 catalytic converter was new and there was also leaks along the entire exhaust. So I gave in and...

Looking to replace the entire exhaust system

I've been working on the exhaust the past couple of days and unfortunately things have not gone smoothly for me. One of the threaded studs that hold up the first cat just sheared off! So that has set me back an entire week while I wait for the right tools to get here so I can drill it out and...

Looking to replace the entire exhaust system

Currently in my 2002 my exhaust is filled with leaks and covered with rust, and both cats are most definitely shot which is evident by the fact I've been driving around with a p0420 code for years now. Bottom line is everything needs to be replaced, from the first cat to the tail pipe. The pipes...

The 3rd Gen All Questions Allowed Thread

Does anyone have the part number for the original style rear diff breather? The extension mod is so popular that I can't find it anywhere. I'm not interested in doing the mod, I just want to drop in a replacement and go.

    Sluggish acceleration problem

Is it possible for the throttle cable to have loosened somehow? It seems overly simple and I don't even know if it could get loose enough to have a problem like this. I guess it wouldn't hurt to check though. I just adjusted mine a few days ago which is why it came to mind.

My 4runner is about to turn into a daily driver. Any advice?

I should not have brushed off this advice so dismissively. I had to get jumpstarted when I left work today and on the drive back I was getting power fluctuations whenever I would brake. I get home and clean the battery terminals immediately, car goes back to normal. Keep your battery terminals...

My 4runner is about to turn into a daily driver. Any advice?

It looks like I was wrong about the suspension being fully rebuilt on only one side, I had a closer look and it's just the LBJ on the driver side that's new. The upper ball joints on both sides are toasted too so now priority is just replace all the ball joints and bushings. I had a look through...

2002 with Brake!, VSC OFF, VSC TRAC, and ABS lights on, no CEL codes

The ABS control module arrived today and as expected, after I finished putting it in everything was back to normal. What was dealer thinking wanting to do $8000 of work? An unexpected bonus from doing this replacement is that I noticed the air duct that runs behind that dash panel wasn't seated...
