What breaks? 10 Years Old but Low Miles

Looks like this thread has pretty much dried up. So thanks for all the input... Next stop: Canyonlands / White Rim Trail. Someday...

What breaks? 10 Years Old but Low Miles

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. The only unexpected thing so far for me was the little o-ring on the bottom A/C line connector at the condenser - a slow leak and easy enough to replace. Dealt with the sticky 4-low position sensor switch just in time, before having to deal with...

What breaks? 10 Years Old but Low Miles

Have a 2012 5th gen TE - 72,000 (fun-filled) miles, but (yikes!) 10 years old. Lots of towing (3,900 lb trailer), plenty of freeway, fair amount of fairly ambitious wheeling, not so much local/commute; has received plenty of regular maintenance and TLC. So... what have you guys found that...

    White Rim Trail Cancellation

Got shingles so had to cancel my White Rim Trail reservation for May 22-28. Go get it while it's still available: Airport, Gooseberry, Potato, Hardscrabble, Labyrinth, Taylor (2 nights). Wanted y'all to know first so we'll maybe have a 4Runner out there having some fun.

    Travel Trailers

When shopping for our trailer, our mantra was "As small as possible, as big as necessary". Ended up with a 19' fiberglass Escape, and have absolutely no regrets. The 19 Foot Escape Don't be scared by the price - it's in Canadian dollars, so cut it by 20- 25% for US dollars.

    Oil Pressure

Thanks for the hopefully useful information. I'll have a look at the post. [Edit] A great read - thanks! Hot damn - looks like I can monitor my power steering pressure! Maybe it's time to root around on the interwebs and scare up a copy of Techstream. Looks like some fun stuff...

    Oil Pressure

Nope, I only bought the one $13 switch from O'Reilly's, and my original post was made before doing so, just in case I had trouble finding one locally to look at. I still don't know what the threads are - NPT, SBPT, metric of some sort, size? All I have is a sample, and it's sorta hard to order...

    Oil Pressure

Hello. My name is Dave, and I just want some gauges. Anybody know the thread size of the oil pressure idiot light switch? :ybrick:

    Oil Pressure

Yeah - but at least I would know that something has gone awry if it's at a certain temp for months under certain conditions and then under similar conditions it starts running much hotter or colder. I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't be able pry the acceptable temperature range for the 1GR-FE from...

    Oil Pressure

Again: "As far as I can tell, Toyota doesn't make oil pressure or temperature available on the bus - if they did I would be looking at the values on my ScanGauge, and avoid this whole thing." If anyone has information to the contrary - please lemme know.

    Oil Pressure

What I did was... I didn't want to pull out the oil pressure idiot light switch just in order to have it available while shopping around for an appropriate sender and/or adapter - thereby disabling the vehicle - then have to re-install it while waiting for the sender and/or adapter to show up...

    Oil Pressure

Yeah - brain fade - sorry for the (my) confusion - meant to talk about "oil", not "coolant", flowing out. Damn keyboard - I typed "oil" but it came out "coolant". Thanks for being my proof-reader. Two separate topics, ergo two separate paragraphs in the original post: First pressure, Second...

    Oil Pressure

Prolly a remnant from my mis-spent youth wrenching on race cars. But that was then, and blah, blah, blah... We used to even monitor differential temperatures.

    Oil Pressure

I was just saying that I'm almost out of the 5 year / 60,000 mile warranty, so now I can do stuff to the engine - like installing real gauges - and not worry about Toyota trying to weasel out of warranty coverage cuz the problem was caused by an "owner-installed modification". No question about...

    Oil Pressure

Again, I'm talking here specifically about oil temperature, not pressure. In the limiting case example, just replace "hose" with "non-deformable tubular pressure vessel". I used "hose" cuz it's easier to type than "non-deformable tubular pressure vessel", and I'm a lousy typist ;-). [Edit] I...
