Differences between 1st and 2nd Gen why/what made you choose it?

i recently acquired my 2nd gen runner after having sold my 91 accord which was one of the best cars i have ever owned, 300,000 miles and counting with no end in sight anyways, my wife and i are moving to idaho and i needed a vehicle that could haul a fully packed u-haul, has 4WD, looks nice and...

3VZE takes a while to get up to temperature

have you verified there is no coolant flowing to the sensor, or are you guessing there is no coolant there?? the temp guage sender in the engine needs coolant flowing over it to read properly, it will not read air, i.e. if the guage reads a temp, the sender probably has coolant flowing over it...

    1990 4runner running rough

pulling plug wires while the engine is running at idle isn't gonna tell you much unless you have a super keen mechanical eye/ear for rpm change you will not notice any change - you need to set the rpm to 1500-2000 and pull plug wires to notice any significant drop when pulling plug wires a...

'94 4Runner Manual, 3.0 sputters bad going up hills

the water jackets are the cooling chambers around the cylinders - you may have a blockage there not allowing water to cycle through the block the catalytic converter should be removable from the exhaust system - if the insides start to break down they can actually melt and cause blockages try...

    Potential new owner questions

+1 on everything mentioned above, find out who rebuilt the engine and if they are reputable - did they rebuild it or just swap out a junkyard longblock? check under the truck, cv shafts, rear coil springs, rust, cracks, leaks, bushings, etc... check the wheel bearings, tune-up stuff - to...

1986 22RE - May have taken on a little water...

the ecu needs to be powered to test it and there is no real test to see if the ecu works or not - if you can power it and communicate with it thats about the extent of it ecu's are pretty tough, there's not much to them - they rely on info from external sensors and then change injector pulse...

1990 4Runner back windows very slow.

try cleaning the felt covered track on either side of the window, lots of gunk builds up in there and cleaning the parts of the track you can reach might be enough to help the windows slide easier otherwise you'll have to remove the door panel and try to clean further down the tracks

    engine not running

agreed in the meantime, try to patch the ripped one as best you can - its only temporary til you get a new one don't waste your money on "fancy" add-on's for your 3.0 engine, the 3VZ-E is pretty limited on power to begin with and it takes more than its worth to get more out of it if you...

    Cold air intake explained/debated

adding cold air intakes to a stock engine will provide little if any increase in power or fuel economy. the only increase noted will be in the owners imagination and his/her debt the reason these add-ons don't do anything is because of the stock efi map in the ecm, the map is a pre-set program...
