Great info and write up OP. I wonder what the light output difference is between the ones made in Japan VS the ones made in China. Anyone have any idea? I'm going to be honest, I'm just going to get the chrome China ones due to price.

You did it the right way. I'm doing it the cheap way lol. I want to see how long the paint lasts. When it scratches or looks bad I'll powdercoat. I don't anticipate the paint on the plastic to be too bad as long as I scuff it up nice and use the correct paint.

I've read to use sealant (black rtv for example) in the bolt holes and around the white tubes. There was a picture somewhere around here. That's what I'll be doing this weekend. Trying to figure out what type of paint to use. Hoping for a satin black plastic paint for the caps and semi gloss...
