i did this a while ago. had a leaky xreas so the new setup was better, but a fully functional and nonleaking xreas handles much better than the fj/5100 setup. I can't talk about offroading comparisons bc i never did any

v8. if the fuel econ was drastically different between the two (not 1-2 mpg) i'd say go v6. Why not get all that power and more tq if price/fuel economy is negligible? also, I believe its got a more 'heavy duty' drivetrain.

had same problem last year. Bought an aftermarket manifold/cat for under $500 from ebay new. The ticking went away...but I now get a code for 02 issue (new sensor) on that side. I bought an obd2 reader/eraser and I just erase it when it comes on. Annoying, but better than the $2k raping...

tks for asking. I have about 228,000km on it..which is 142,000 miles? Perhaps it is the difference in climate. I live on the east coast of Canada...pretty much exact climate of Maine. Humid, salt filled and cold winters-->stuck calipers? I see you live in the land of no arthritis!

the moment you buy a big suv, with a big ol' engine in there is the moment fuel efficiency is usually out the window (barring diesel/hybrid). Add a 4wd setup, and it's just time to grin and bare it or move on to a smaller vehicle

ya, it wasn't jst that. the gf has a new suv...the runner was a second vehicle for work/travel. Now I work much closer to home. quite frankly, unless you are towing something/big fam/work/offroad i don't see the need for a big suv. That's just my opinion though. I will say I am disappointed...

thanks. I loved my 99...but it just got to be one thing after another. Didn't want to abandon it...now its working pretty good! just fuel prices and the fact I have a more fuel efficient car right now make it the right move for me.

Well, today is the end of my 4runner days for a while. I 'gifted' my 03 v8 4wd to my parents (saves taxes up here). Their old sante fe is dying...I will miss the ol' girl. I had a 99 runner before, and I had less troubles with it then this 03. It felt time to let it go...in 2 yrs: replaced...

i got this code the other day. I believe it's the right side, and of course, I had an aftermarket header put on because Toyota can't sell anything for the 4runner for under a grand (major parts). Reset it with my obd scanner. history on mine...both o2's on that side are within 1.5 yrs of age...

my example was a fully loaded 03 ltd v8 4wd...with about 110k miles for $7800 CDN (around 7800 USD)...is that low or what?

so weird. Prices in the US are so much higher than here. i have an 03 v8 ltd with @130k miles. Repaired everything, can't get $10k cdn for it privately. Dealers only offering 3-4k on a trade. I should list it in the states LOL

how the heck did you get 11.9l/100? my on board says i get that, i've never been able to get better than 13L/100, all hwy, never going more than 110-120. we have basically same model, 03 v8 limited. :(
