Start by checking the fluid level of the transmission first. If it is low it could cause the symptoms that you are describing.

Awesome truck and workmanship. I just finished building a 1995 Limited 3.0 4x4. Drove it from California to Michoacan Mexico for some desert running and a bit of crawling. Left it out there and its still running strong with 205 k on her. These are great rigs.

Bought another 4runner for parts. A 1990 with chewed engine wiring and lines. The block itself has 13k on it though. Its going into my 95.

I changed the fuel filter on my first 4runner. 1995 4x4 auto. I don't thinks its ever been changed. Had to use a breaker bar to get the damn lines undone. What came out of the filter was char coal. On to see about the popping 3.0
