I just shoved a 22re back in mine. I had to source a new block and head. I'd stick with the 22re too if you wanna keep the cost down. If i had the time and money i would have liked to do a 7MGE swap.

The body is ok. Its got some surface rust on it. But mechanically its solid now. I'd drive it to cali and back with no problems now.

I finally finished my 86 4runner. What turned into a simple brake job and suspension overhaul turned into a engine and drive line rebuild. Turned out the "new" engine that was installed was a cobbled together mess with a turbo block and a carb head.

Picked this up last week. I hope my 4runner doesnt start to feel neglected.

They are trashed the passenger side was installed wrong and was engaged the whole time the snap ring wore thru the back of the hub. And on the drivers side the bolt snapped off inside the axle.

yes like the other two guys said ecu will have the codes in it and should help you pinpoint. i was just giving you some quick things you could check.

Sounds like maybe a cold start injector. Also see if you can reach in and move the flapper on the maf sensor a little bit and see if it clears up. Had the same problem with mine. The cold start injector was stuck open and the contacts inside my maf sensor where dirty. Fixed those two things and...
