Sounds like a BMC, body mount chop. It would be suspect only by the quality of workmanship.

I did this mod to my 2015. Still have it and no issues at all with the steering wheel. Heated steering wheel mod - success!

Was your 2016 an SR5 Premium as well? In your signature it states that your 2021 is a Premium - meaning you have 3rd row seats. Did your 2016 have 3rd row seats?

The Tacoma and 4Runner mirrors are different so I doubt it would be a direct bolt on.
