Mine's doing the exact same thing, I guess I should take it apart before I buy a new one just in case!

I ended up going with the remanufactured route since i wasn't able to find a good used option and was limited on time. Besides the price it's worked out great. I had it done at a place with a good reputation than a couple of my family members had dealt with and had good success.

I just did this same thing last fall and made it through the winter with everything looking pretty good. A couple places could use a touch up but like the OP said, the assumption is it will need to be repeated each year.

Problem resolved Ended up calling a locksmith to come out and fix my issue, he first tried turning my spare valet key a bunch of times and used vice grips, broke the key and tried that several times with keys that he cut. He ended up drilling out the lock pin and pried out the ignition cylinder...
