Snow is melting..... finally got some mud on the tires. Snow has been melting and spring is trying to show itself up north. Took a little detour on the way home from work today. Headed out to Cooper Lake near Cooper Landing, AK. Found out it was still frozen and opted for some beach driving on...

First Blizzard of 2015...post your pics

Jeep?!? "Don't worry, it's a Jeep" This absolutely made my day - especially parts where the dude is out yelling at his car. http://youtu.be/CuTXUcoGdhw

    Floor vents not working

Searched and couldn't find anything on this... About 2000 miles on the 4R and a few days back the floor vents quit blowing air. Tried all the different settings and under no circumstance will it blow any air out of floor vents (front and rear). Defrost and face heaters all still work. Anyone...

Slowly but surely... Few more modifications to the rig. Bilstein 5100's arrived and I am waiting to install them. Probably just wait until I change over to summer tires. Some might call this a downgrade, but they sure have been awesome in the snow and ice - way better than the BFG's were...

Does your 5th gen. take 20 minutes to warm up?

Use the recirculate function - heats way faster. I live in Alaska and it doesn't seem too bad, although I am coming from a diesel truck. I just make sure it is blowing both floor and face vents - then turn on the recirculate button. Makes a huge difference. Fogs up eventually and you have to...

about $900. You can get a berth for $300. If you pay for your car, the driver rides free during the winter.

When to use 4hi For this trip I was in 4hi 90% of the time. I am more conservative on Alaska roads because there are lots of hills and curves. I don't want the back end to slide out at 60 mph. Whenever I am pulling into a parking lot or planning on cranking the steering wheel I shift out to...

Yeah, I want to do something with the rear suspension and will probably get 5100s on all 4 corners. I tow a jet boat in the summer and snow mobiles in the winter. I had Ride Rite airbags on my truck and want to look into something similar for the 4Runner.

Taking Delivery.... Seattle to Anchorage We are having the absolute worst winter in Alaska this year. I am currently looking at green grass outside my office window. Haven't been out snow machining or skiing once this year. That said, I decided to look in Seattle as well when shopping for the...

Well, figured I had better get this started. Here is my build and adventure thread. In all actuality, it will probably be more of an adventure thread considering my list of mods is pretty minimal. New 4Runner owner and I am totally stoked about the new rig. A bit of a change after almost a...

What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Since we are talking temperature.... Yesterday morning was chilly. I think it was colder, but the thermometer in the truck only goes to -40. Was getting 15.1 mpg mostly highway.

    2014 TEP in first snow....

Luckily it was cold and clear which makes the snow and ice a lot less slick. Not too bad at all. Looked a lot like the attached photo most of the way. Even though I didn't have snow tires for the drive, I went and got studded tires today - peace of mind on the really slick days.

    2014 TEP in first snow....

Just drove 800 miles across Alaska, British Columbia and Yukon Territory. 400+ miles of ice/snow on road. 4R was a tank even without snow tires. Was in 4 hi most of the time.

    5th Gen T4R Picture Gallery

Hard to see the T4R, but cool pic. Just got back from bringing my new truck from Seattle back to Alaska. Snapped first photo while in Tok, AK.... temp that night was -42°, nearly a full moon and the norther lights were kicking. Second pic is new truck in all her glory. Kinda hard to capture the...

Long drive home from the dealership...

Picked up the rig two days ago in Seattle. Love it so far. Loaded on ferry that night and have been steaming north for the past 36 hours. Rough night last night and rolled into Ketchikan early this morning. Check the buoy readings and it confirmed why I barely slept. Seas up to 16'...
