I concur with St. Runner, there is a lot of adjustment under the dash to increase throw. Just don't wrench your back twisting in there, take seat out if you plan on working under there for an extended period of time. I have had a couple 5 speeds and never had a low engagement.

have 01 sequoia and 99 4runner Pretty sure the spindles, outer ball joints, and steering rack are the same. I did the rack on the sequoia when I got it and pretty sure I remember it was the same as the 4runner.

Just drove a friend's brand new 19 4Runner TRD. Since Buttons and gadgets don't really turn me on, I preferred my 99 5sp. $40k (plus interest over 7 years) adds up to a lot of money. Are you guys debt free?
