I didn't do anything as fancy to get the box on, just re-drilled some holes for the mounting points on the ski box so i could mount it forward enough to get the tailgate to clear. The way it's sitting in the picture is the maximum i could attach it towards the rear, i've got less than 1/2 inch...

Here's mine. Old Thule Summit box riding on Thule Crossroad rack. I'm very happy with it. I prefer to have the box outwards more than the factory rack allows, and the curve of the factory cross bars doesn't let the box sit flat unless you have it centred.
