Looking at a new 5th gen, what are the common issues?

I am enjoying this thread. Decision time is on Saturday. I'll report back.

The new 6 speed is the #1 complaint with the new Tacomas.

Hmm, a little different than this:

1st gear low enough off-road? I drove a 4th gen 4 speed and 1st was a little too high for my liking.

Drove a 126 hp 4 banger pickup for 10 years. I don't see power being an issue.

Well that's a promising start.:thumb3: I've been lurking for a few weeks and haven't really seen much mentioned. Just checking that I didn't miss anything.

I have a '16 Tacoma on order but the list of problems people are running into with their brand new trucks is getting longer by the day. So, I'm now doing my research on 2016 4Runners. What are the common issues on new 4Runners that may pop up in the first 10k miles or soon after? Thanks in advance!

    16 Tacoma better than 4runner..

A manual transmission.... and the Off-Road 4x4 can be had for $31k vs $36k for a TE.

Need help with H4 understanding and driving in snow

If I'm on ice or even hard snow, as soon as ABS starts I start pumping. I know people say ABS will stop you faster, but in some situations, it's downright dangerous.

Tires make a huge difference. Crappy all seasons vs good all seasons vs snow tires- the differences are very noticeable. Not braking in turns is also important. Try to get down to the proper speed before the turn. Also, use your gears. I drive around town in snow all winter and I generally drive...

Winter is coming- which chains for rear wheels?

Since, it doesn't seem like real chains will work with the stock vehicle up front, what's the burliest set that will fit in the back? I'm talking for off-road, not highway.

No snow chains on all four wheels?

Anymore thoughts on chains on the front (2004, 265/65/17 stock)? I am looking for the strongest, grippiest chain I can fit without doing damage. I plan on using them off-road only going about 5 mph.

    My 05 just hit 253K!

    Nice work! V6 or V8?

Winter is coming- which chains for rear wheels?

Honestly, in 15 years of skiing in Colorado, I have never needed chains to go resort skiing. All seasons on an Outback and Pickup haven't let me miss a powder day yet... Including driving 8" of fresh on I-70, 30 min before they shut down the highway for 3 days! I'd only get chains if you are...
