Anyone have feedback on NGK Ruthenium Plugs

Late reply I know, but the rutheniums are single ground electrode plugs. Our engines are a waste spark system as we only have 3 coil packs but 6 spark plugs. That means that both plugs get fired twice on every sequence as there's 2 plugs on 1 coil. It causes the spark plugs to wear down very...

    Voltage Booster for AGM Battery

That happened to me as well and it turned out to be a dirty positive cable connection. I took off the cables, cleaned them good with rubbing alcohol and put them back on securely and back to 14V+. It was an observed drop as when I installed them it was fine then it slowly started to drop.

    projection bulbs

My 100W/80W bulbs have been great all these years. Highly recommend it as a low-cost solution to improve the lights.

    Jerod's Supercharged T[u]RD Build

After 27 years of grime, grease, an engine swap and bug splatter, my engine bay is clean again. 5 hours to do it though... probably never again ha! But it turned out nice. I used the 'Chris Fix' detailing method, worked well.

    The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

There's nothing magical about 3500 RPM but it could be an open loop/closed loop dynamic. If you are really mashing it, it will downshift to about 3500 RPM and switch to open loop in which the piggyback alters the signals to add more fuel and pull some timing. That makes me think it's not the...

How cooked am I with this leak

Mine looked like that at 190K miles when I bought it, leaking valve cover gaskets. You can try the UV dye kits on Amazon or other places where you place the dye in your oil, drive it around as usual for a few hundred miles and then check out the engine with a blacklight. The leak will glow under...

    Exhaust leak

Is it rusted badly on the cat downpipe, the crossover pipe or the exhaust manifold itself? Junkyard will have the first two but the exhaust is a real pain to get out. If it's the crossover pipe... one has to disconnect the transmission to get to it. I would take it to an exhaust shop to see if...

    Jerod's Supercharged T[u]RD Build

If you read a bit more, the shim spacers that came with these popped a shim out and destroyed my engine. Before it was destroyed, it did not sound any different as it did not have very much valve overlap. I am not aware of any cams for a Toyota that has that, which causes the loping sound at...

Lost Compression on Cylinder 3 and 4 - repair or move on?

Get a print out of the compression in each cylinder. The shop just saying "compression loss" isn't helpful or sounding very honest. They are just charging $3,000 for a head gasket job which is not worth it, even for CA standards. If they won't give you more information take it to another shop...

Rebuilt 5VZ-FE: Oil Change after 500 Miles?

This is what I did as well. An oil change is what, $40 and an hour of your time? Or $60 at a shop? I had a junkyard engine that I put in my 4Runner which technically didn't even need a break in period or oil change but if I lodged something loose or there was a bit of metal wear from parts...

    Writing on Engine

My JDM engine had paint pen written on it, in Japanese! Makes sense being a salvaged engine from Japan. Also had numbers written by the receiving shop in English. I agree with sentiments above, it is a replacement engine. This can actually be a good thing though as having the original engine...

    02 sensor replacement???

The readiness indicators can take several hundred miles of driving before setting. I have one that never sets but I have a 98 and in CA it is allowed. They take very specific drive cycles that I never do to full set.

    The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Air Assist only helped under vacuum as when we put the one-way check valve in and build boost, the air flow would actually flow backwards back into the intake without it. So under boost it's just a regular injector. I've been fighting low idle for as long as I had the non Air Assist brown tops...

    The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Yes if you are ok with installing a larger fuel pump. It'll start to lose fuel pressure at WOT without it. Still more fuel then you are getting right now though, it'll just be near impossible to tune if you decide to go that route. I've been running mine for about 7 years. Get the blue top Supra...

    The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

I use a discontinued AEM FIC 6. Other ones that are used are the URD's Split Second unit, MAP3ECU, and the very pricey Haltech system. I don't think the Haltech price is worth it, personally, and the tuning is very involved.
