it ended up being the alarm system. I deactivated it with 3 key cycles and pushing in the red alarm button while cranking the engine.

sorry for the delay in responding... the dash lights aren't on, but when i stick the key in the ignition the dash does light up, as you'd expect.

yes, but...why would it still overflow so much from the level check drain after i refilled it and drove it around the block a couple times to warm up the ATF?

today i picked up 4 quarts at the dealer with the intention of just draining the pan and refilling, the start of a process like what RDRUSS was recommending. Interestingly, when i removed the level check plug at the beginning of the process ATF liberally flowed out. Temp of trans wasn't cold...

of course, today i went to another dealer (different than the one who said "don't do it if i were you") to pick up some WS and swung by the service dept and they were all gun ho about doing the dealer flush.:shrug:

you did the fluid change yourself or you got it flushed by the dealer.

So just drain what's in the pan? Should transmission be warm before draining (get more out). I thought the pan only held 2 quarts when cold. What about dropping the pan to clean off the metal filter?
