    rehabbng a '98 2WD 4R after possible overheating

checked continuity, all good with that on the starter relay I wonder if this is something to do with the alarm system? Has the truck been "deactivated" due to the alarm triggering??? Not sure how alarms work in these trucks. I see the turn signal / hazard lights flashing, along with the clappy...

    rehabbng a '98 2WD 4R after possible overheating

i re-charged the battery, checked connections. All the fuses are good. What i'm wondering is what does the repeated relay clicking/horn honking mean? Key's not even in the ignition when it does this. As long as the battery is hooked up the relays and horn go off. I'm going to try to mess...

Yes, you correctly described what i did. I'm not sure what the plastic level straw is (edit: i see via the diagram it's attached to the level check inlet drain hole)? I did drain the pan with the engine off. Checked the level with the engine on. Temps were between 100-105. My OBD reader has an...

All geared up for V8 transmission fluid change - Toy service recommends NO

yes, but...why would it still overflow so much from the level check drain after i refilled it and drove it around the block a couple times to warm up the ATF?

All geared up for V8 transmission fluid change - Toy service recommends NO

today i picked up 4 quarts at the dealer with the intention of just draining the pan and refilling, the start of a process like what RDRUSS was recommending. Interestingly, when i removed the level check plug at the beginning of the process ATF liberally flowed out. Temp of trans wasn't cold...

All geared up for V8 transmission fluid change - Toy service recommends NO

of course, today i went to another dealer (different than the one who said "don't do it if i were you") to pick up some WS and swung by the service dept and they were all gun ho about doing the dealer flush.

you did the fluid change yourself or you got it flushed by the dealer.

thanks for the detailed info and pics. The V8 has a trans cooler. The Magnefine filter may be a good idea if i decide to do a DIY full fluid change. I hesitate to throw a different ATF in there, esp if i'm not experiencing any issues. I do have an OBD scanner that shows operating temp for the...

So just drain what's in the pan? Should transmission be warm before draining (get more out). I thought the pan only held 2 quarts when cold. What about dropping the pan to clean off the metal filter?
