you can get a 1st gen straight axle for under 3k no prob, alot easier (and cheaper) to lift as well because it has leafs front and back. I just bought an 85 today for 300$, it has no interior or motor, but i just rebuilt my motor and i can use my interior so all i really have to do is swap in...

best way to tell, take off your valve cover, 4 nuts and 3 other bolts that hold misc vaccuums and wires and 2 vaccuum hoses, push on the driver side of the chain and if it has excessive play it will need changed. should be a little loose but not alot. also if you dont see the guides sticking up...

check the sig man......8in shackle extensions in the rear and cranked the torsion bars in the front, no rubbing at all.....btw i don't recommend the torsion bar crank, mines only temporary to make room for the 35's until axle swap in the next couple of weeks
