Used this method to change my ball joints over the weekend. Worked flawlessly, hardest part of the job was the get the snap ring back on (no snap ring pliers). I also agree with using a flat piece of metal instead of the "C" adapter.

bought my 3rd gen yesterday! 96 limited 4x4 with 182K. a little bang uped but mechanically sound.
