Janvil system works great

Reading the level can be tough with side slop. I had to repeat over and over at various times to feel confident I was reading it right.

Timing belt is time consuming and if doing yourself, order your parts, study the video, carve out a convenient time before it becomes necessary and inconvenient.

Or spray paint it with flat (black). It has a certain appeal.

Leave it dirty all the time. Easy and hides flaws.

My 1997 5 speed had this noise. After driving with the noise for 4 years, had a shop diagnose as bad throw out bearing and had clutch replaced.
