This use to happen to me. I cleaned my throttle body out, which had so much gunk in it and the problem went away. Hopefully its something that simple for you. Good luck
Did mine at around 250k just because I thought it was time. When I pulled the belt and WP everything looked fine, no cracks on the belt and WP looked good. I think I'm good for another 200k
Is your idle low? Try cleaning your maf sensor and inside your throttle body, that seemed to help me with the random shut offs. I had so much gunk in my throttle body i think it was sticking.
I switched to M1 high mileage full syn about a year ago with no issues. I currently have 267*** miles on my 01 and its still running like new. It seamed to run smoother when I first switched but maybe it was just all in the head.
I have 2001 4runner Sr5 with the 3.4 V6 5VZFE and I'm trying to buy a Timing belt and Water pump kit online, but there is an option with or without oil cooler. Did these engines come with one? I never noticed it when doing oil changes. Any help with this will be much appreciated.

I have driven on it and truck seems to run fine. This is my daily driver and I check for leaks after stop.. There is only a leak about half the time. I found the leak by squeazing the top radiator hose and immediately noticed the leak coming from that plug.
