Here's what I came up with. Chopped up a block of EVA foam made for Yoga with a bread knife, and drilled holes in it with a "hole saw" made from a 3.25 inch or so can of baked beans from Dollar Tree. Trimmed it with black gaffer's tape to try to hide some of the fugly. Holds my large McD's...
