    Scary Dealer Maintenance Story

Even my 2012 2wd sr5 has two grease fittings on the propeller shaft. it's not just 4x4's. I recommend doing as much preventive maintenance yourself if you can. If you can't, find a place that you can at least observe the maintenance being done.

    Cracked windshield

I did not know Toyota made their own glass. I thought they just overcharged for it. As far as I know, all the glass shops get their windshields from the same local distribution center. The difference would be in the installation expertise.

    Cracked windshield

Shop around for this. Tell them you have the heated windshield. Safelite quoted me $295 and 7 Stars Auto Glass about the same. I took it to 7 Stars because they could take me in right away. They originally had the wrong windshield (no heater plug) so had to have another one sent over. They...

Thanks Jay Bee. I think you're right.

do I need to change PCV valve?

It looks like Toyota tried to use some copper anti-seize and still couldn't make seat all the way.

do I need to change PCV valve?

I replaced my wife's PCV valve (2012) this morning at 30K miles. It was over-torqued and seemed cross-threaded from the factory (it was difficult to back out the whole time). When I installed the new valve (OEM), it didn't seat all the way down to the valve cover. If someone can check their...

How many people don't use the free oil changes and service?

I prefer to do my own work too. The dealerships always seem to screw something up, if not everything. You get what you pay for.

Brought my Toyotas to the dealer for service over the last few days...

As gut wrenching as it is for me to take my vehicles to the stealership for maintenance, I realize that we need them to be there for most warranty work. I do most of the scheduled maintenance myself, but will throw them a bone on occasion. I write it off as paying taxes, but always verify that...

Caster question for stock supension and stock size tires...

I don't think this is an alignment issue. I think it's a sway bar issue. My 2000 Tundra had a wandering problem and I was able to fix it with a Hellwig rear anti-sway bar. I think I will try that next (it already has new Michelin tires and Bilstein shocks, and alignment).

Bilstein HD installed. Comments after 1k miles

Well, I ordered the front and rear 4600 HD's yesterday for 2012 from shockwarehouse. Then I find out that I'll need mounting hardware for the front strtuts. So I order some from toytec. Then I learn that the rear shocks come with no hardware either. So now I'm trying to catch toytec about...

    Best Dealership Service in Texas

I think it's all about which tech gets assigned to your car and how his workload looks for the day. Find a good tech first and go from there.

    Blackstone oil report

This looks like Toyota 0w-20 SN engine oil. Is it? Nice report and thanks for posting.

    Handling/stability upgrade

As I've already mentioned, the new shocks are coming. The shocks would have come first, but an unfixable flat moved the new tires forward. The castor is set high enough. And the 2wd SR5 will never see off road conditions unless my wife runs off the road due to a wind gust or road rut. I've...

    Handling/stability upgrade

I'm completely onboard with new Bilstein HD shocks eventially after I pay off the new Michelins I just put on this 15k mile car. But my complaint is not understeer while cornering, or even nosedive. Those mediocre handling characteristics are managable and safe for my wife. It's lateral...
