Whines When Foot Off Accelerator & Clunk Just Before Stop

We just greased everything, but I'm going to go back over it. The clunk started at exactly the same time the whine started. Of course that doesn't mean they are related... :-)

Whines When Foot Off Accelerator & Clunk Just Before Stop

Thanks! We just (I mean *just*!) replaced the pinion bearings, which were making a noise, but one that was far more subtle than this one. We're not leaking any oil to speak of at this point. I'm going to go have a look again at the axle housing.

Whines When Foot Off Accelerator & Clunk Just Before Stop

Hi, All. I'm a relatively new T4R owner (of an old 2000 200K+ miles, 4wd auto T4R), and I experienced a new issue yesterday during a long drive that involved stop and go around-town driving and highway miles. When I take my foot off the accelerator now, I hear a whining sound. If I accelerate...

    Bumper Talk

My understanding is it cuts both ways with air bag deployment, and just like you're not going to deploy an airbag when you hit a light pole in the parking lot, you're also not going to deploy an airbag with a tree bump in the field (my understanding is that's not how the sensors work). From...

    Bumper Talk

We're looking at an ARB too with one of the selling points being their integration with air bag systems and the work they have done in that regard. The trouble is, of course that other manufacturers say it doesn't matter and ARB doesn't make a front bumper specific to a 3rd gen. Thanks for this...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

New calipers, new pinion bearing and a tweak and tighten to the belts...making the most of a couple of warm days here in Maine before the cold sets back in!

    Jadefox's 2000 T4R Build Thread

So she came with Dunlop Rover H/T - P265/70R16 all season tires, and we're looking to switch it up. Our needs? Plenty of dirt roads, some true off-road and the highway miles to get us to the dirt. Bottom line: this is a fishing vehicle, but we need to cover some road miles in it as well...

    Jadefox's 2000 T4R Build Thread

Well she doesn't look a whole lot different from external shots today, but she's a whole lot better to drive! New battery, all belts tightened and adjusted, new pinion bearing, and new brake calipers and break pads. Phew. We thought we were just getting into the left break caliper and...

Thanks. I'm doing my due diligence now. Expanding the job from a single caliper to calipers, rotors and pads may be a financial deterrent, especially with the pinion issue pending, but we are seriously looking into this.

Sounds like I need to research the 231mm tundra brake upgrade. Pros and cons?

    Jadefox's 2000 T4R Build Thread

So we've noticed she pulls to the right when breaking, and I think we now know it is the left front caliper to blame. It's been messed with somewhat recently, as the bolts are wrong. One was not tight and crossthreaded. Also the rust in-and-of-itself is pointing to a need for a caliper...

We're not set on anything in stone yet--just trying to create a budget that will have us fishing streams in the west and far north this spring. I'll take a look at Outdoor Logic. Thanks for that!

Thanks! We're pretty jazzed. I think we're looking at going with the Shrockrocks front and rear bumper unless we hear compelling reasons to do otherwise. What are your front bumper light recommendations?
