My 97 was struggling at times to start recently- The one day....No crank at all. I went and picked up a starter from toyota dealer and did a tune up (not that difficult) as well. Now, it seriously cranks like a new truck again.

I was sweating this as well when I replaced my A/C Compressor and Drier- it's actually pretty easy- it's a lot more durable than you might think! The suggestion above is right on the money.

Probably just the air servomotor door- when you adjust the cool level or make it warmer, the door that lets in the cold air opens and closes. While it shouldn't be making a loud clunk, I don't think it's a real huge issue unless you start getting only COOL air (instead of cold) or hot air only...

I have a 97 (should be the same, right?) and if memory serves, I had to hit the red button on the ECM under the seat prior to doing these steps when i ordered my new Fob.
