I purchased an 1989 4Runner from a guy that had it for a short period of time and had no clue what services were done. I looked at the water pump and timing chain cover and they looked new or cleaned very well and looked to be a fresh blue gasket that was not dirty so i thought they had been...
I believe the tensioner is part of the kit just not listed. I looked at the pic. Hopefully it is included.
I already have the oil pan off, cleaned and painted so it might only take half a day. well see.

Well after talking to LC Engineering i went with there dual chain kit.
It is made in Japan. I will take pics and let you know how it goes.
How long of a job is this? I was thinking about 6 hours tops.

Can i just replace the guides without taking the head off? just seems like a pita and the seal and cover look new from the outside. The water pump also looks new.
I have to replace the timing chain and i am thinking about going to a dual chain setup. If it does last longer it might make sense to spend the extra money but it is only driven on the weekends.
Do you get more than 100,000 miles on the metal backed guides even on the single?

Take a look at the pcs that were in my oil pan. The blacks pcs are some type of plastic and 1 metal pc with threads. Very weird to have a plastic substance in there.
What could these pcs be?
Does the engine look clean to you?
I could not find anything missing when i looked inside.
How do i get the nut off by the passenger side air vent? I cant seem to get anything in there. I took the vent out and still could not get to it.

If these guys don't have it nobody will. If they have the vinyl it will be expensive about $100.00 per yard.
